Fox and WPT Sign Continuing 3 Year Contract

written by: Will Comments: No

Recently, Fox Sports and the World Poker Tour came to an agreement to televise the World Poker Tour over the next three years – seasons 9 through 11. Throughout each week, FSN will broadcast reruns of previous episodes while new episodes will be shown on the network each Sunday at 8 and 11 p.m. President of the World Poker Tour, Adam Pliska, was optimistic about the deal saying that FSN has long been a champion of the World Poker Tour and that he is happy that they have decided to continue the long standing contract to continue broadcasting World Poker Tour events on the network. He also was pleased about the better time slot that is being awarded the WPT with Fox and the increased volume in promotions and reruns that promise to enhance the visibility of the WPT with returning and new viewers.

Beyond the changed time slot, little else will be changed about the shot itself. FSN still plans to keep seasoned poker announcers Vince Van Patten and Mike Sexton to host the show. 2011′s season will mark the ninth season that Van Patten and Sexton have acted as announcers for the tour. However, the show will feature a new “Raw Deal” special where a poker player will make remarks on a variety of topics. This segment will also be home to the popular Royal Flush Girls. Auditions for the host of this new segment took place during the Bicycle Casino Legends of Poker tournament earlier this month.

European Poker Tour at Vilamoura Smashing Records

written by: James Comments: No

Long considered to be one of the golf capitals of the world, Vilamoura, Portugal is once again one of the favorite stops on the European Poker Tour this year. Last season, Vilamoura was a very successful stop on the tour with a prize pool of around 1.5 million Euros and hundreds of the top professional poker players around the world in attendance. Last season, 322 players competed for the final table - which consisted of memorable play by pros such as Jan Skampa and Jeff Sarwer along with the French poker veteran Michel Abecassis. In the end, Antonio Matias was successful and took home a total prize package of a little more than 404,000 Euros.

This year, Vilamoura is once again a very successful tournament – after only being played for a total of two years. So successful is the tournament, in fact, that this year will break the record for the largest poker tournament taking place in the city of Vilamoura with 384 participants. At the beginning of day 2 on August 30th, Leonid Bilokur was the chip leader as one of the PokerStars qualifiers from Russia – holding 161,000 in chips. Following behind on day 2 were Sam Trickett with a little over 132,000 in chips and Dario Minieri with just over 131,000.

New UB Owners Opt Out of UltimateBet.com

written by: John Comments: 4

Over the past week it was announced that Blanca Games had acquired the Cereus poker network. While the details of the deal were not disclosed, there was one obvious change that everyone seemed to pick up on. If you navigate to the domain UltimateBet.com you get redirected to DepositBonus.com. Hmm pretty fishy. I tweeted to UB to see if I could get a response as to why this was happening.

Here is the convo:

When Is It Time to Move Up in Limits?

written by: John Comments: No

As a poker player, your ultimate goal is probably to one day get a shot at the biggest stakes available. Of course, few players ever actually end up realizing this dream. Nonetheless, moving up in limits is an integral aspect of any poker player’s career. Whether you are moving from the penny games to the dime games, or mid stakes to high stakes, there is always something new to learn.

A lot of players get overwhelmed and nervous when they eventually decide to make whatever jump they are going to make. This isn’t unusual at all, and you may only be reading this article because you are this exact same way. The remedy to this situation is quite simple on paper, but like most things in poker, will take some actual gameplay experience to really get a handle of.

Why You Should Move Down in Limits

written by: John Comments: 1

Just as poker players constantly move up in limits, any good player will also learn how to move down in limits. There is a lot of negativity associated with moving down in limits. Aside from the obvious frustration, moving down in games is often indicative of some type of failure. While you may have very well failed in a higher limit game, there is next to nothing to be ashamed or embarrassed about. It is one thing if you took reckless shots or lost your bankroll in a fit of rage, but virtually every player will have to legitimately move down in stakes at some point in their career.

The more that you move up, the tougher that the games become, and the tougher that the games become, the less money that there is to be made. Unless you are Phil Ivey, you will most likely reach that one limit where you are no longer capable of winning at a respectable rate. Now, if this limit is something like 50NL, you have a lot of work to do. On the other hand, if you are in a 5/10 game and find that you just can’t generate a profit at 10/20, you might just not be good enough. Not being “good enough” is something that many players can’t and/or are unwilling to handle. Maybe you don’t have the proper bankroll, maybe your temperament is holding you back, or maybe you are simply getting outplayed on a regular basis. Whatever the reason is, moving down will help you regain your confidence and rebuild your bankroll.
