During the European Poker Tour London launch, Boeree was announced as having joined the professional poker player team at PokerStars this past week. Boeree will now be playing alongside player favorites like Chris Moneymaker, Vanessa Rousso and Daniel Negreanu at one of the largest poker sites on the Internet. Most recently, Boeree gained media attention for winning the 2010 European Poker Tour San Remo. She has stated that this announcement has been her ultimate goal for the past 5 years and is happy to be a member of the PokerStars team.
From her beginnings as a poker reality contestant, Liv Boeree has proven that she is not just a talented television personality – but also a skilled poker player. Coached by the well known poker professional Phil Hellmuth. Following her appearance on the poker show Ultimatepoker.com Showdown, Boeree started playing poker regularly as well as expanding her reach in televised poker commentary and writing. At first, Boeree began to play well in several notable championships such as the Welsh Amateur Poker Championship (where she finished seventh) and the Gala UK Poker Tour.
No, it’s not a typo. Englishman James Bord walked away the winner of the World Series of Poker Europe this week after taking down Fabrizio Baldassari. How did a professional poker player get a name so close to the espionage star on the rocks with MGM? Well, James Bord is the name of the anonymous English poker player that won the WSOPE, not the design of fate.
Bord might owe a great deal of his recent buzz to the adoration of the fans during the tournament in London, England. Obviously, Bord was the favorite – even among one of the most impressive and talented fields of player ever to play in a WSOPE main event. When Bord went heads up against Baldassari, he faced a huge obstacle – a large deficit in his chip stack. However, amidst the cheering along the rail, Bord was able to overcome this deficit and walk away the main event winner.
A HUD is a heads up display. Heads up displays are one of the primary functions of poker tracking software programs. A heads up display can tell you everything from how often a player raises to the frequency in which they fold to a 3-bet. Needless to say, HUDs can make any player’s life a whole lot easier. Virtually every winning online poker player uses a HUD to one extent or another, so it only makes sense that you too are utilizing all of the benefits that HUDs have to offer.
The real trick with HUDs is not using them, but instead using them correctly. As is the case with most aspects of poker, a HUD does have a slight learning curve. You will have no clue what anything means when you first start to use one, but before long you will be relying on it for a number of tough decisions that you are faced with hand after hand. HUDs can be used in tournament or cash game settings, though they are far more prevalent in the ring games. The problem with using a HUD in sit and gos is that you will often be working with small sample sizes. It is difficult to gauge the accuracy of any set of data if it is only over a handful of hands. If you are playing against a lot of the same players over and over again, however, a HUD can then also be useful in a sit and go environment. No matter what types of games you are playing, all HUDs have the same basic information that needs to be accurately interpreted.
Gus Hansen has often been compared to the famous underdog poker player from the United States – Chris Moneymaker. Coming from humble beginnings, Hansen has been known to inspire European poker amateurs to take the next step and hone their online poker skills in hopes of a live poker career. Until now, Hansen’s wrist has remained bare of a gold bracelet. However, this changed recently as Gus Hansen came away as the winner of Event 4 in the World Series of Poker Europe. This marks the first time that Hansen has won a bracelet in the WSOPE. Gus Hansen can now add this gold bracelet to his multiple wins in the World Poker Tour.
The $10,350 No Limit Texas Holdem (Heads Up) event is yet another success that Hansen can add to his resume that has gained him so much respect in the online and offline poker world. Hansen was accompanied by a huge audience on the rail to watch the not quite easy win of Hansen over his last opponent – Jim Collopy.
At least, as most of the poker world is believing. The reputed online poker legend, Isildur1 is now rumored to be Viktor Blom – a Swedish poker professional. If this is true, Isildur1 is in the lead at the WSOPE Main Event going into Day 3. While it is certain that Blom owns the online poker account “Blom90,” Viktor Blom has many poker players convinced that he is also one of the most famous online high stakes poker players of this generation – despite his refusal to confirm or deny the statements. Blom has also refused to grant an interview on the subject.
Isildur1 made his name well know in the Fall of 2009 when he began to sweep through high stakes poker on Full Tilt Poker. One of the reasons that many are tying Blom90 to Isildur1 is that Blom90 made a smash appearance in the beginning of 2009 – amassing a large bankroll on multiple European poker sites before literally vanishing from the online poker world.
