On Monday, September 6th, GSN has announced that they will be broadcasting a high stakes poker marathon beginning at 7:00 pm Eastern Time. The marathon will last until 3 am the following morning (a total of eight hours) and feature professional players like Patrik Antonius, Doyle Brunson and Tom Dwan (aka “durrr”). This marathon will feature play from the sixth season of the World Poker Tour. If you live on the West Coast of the United States, you can catch the marathon beginning at 4:00 pm.

The 6th season of the World Poker Tour was first played in February of 2009 and featured a first episode where the poker brat, Phil Hellmuth was eliminated during the very first episode. Hellmuth was hoping for either a Flush or Straight but got neither with his all in raise against Phil Ivey. No saving cards came for Hellmuth on the river and he was eliminated from the tournament – losing out on his entire $200k buy in.

The sixth season of the World Poker Tour was also one of the most successful and highest rated since the show’s launch. In fact, with viewers ages 18 to 49, ratings for the show were up 27% over the previous season. With men ages 25 to 54, the ratings exploded 29% up from previous seasons.

Season 6 was also characterized by the resignation of the World Poker Tour co-host A.J. Benza, who was replaced by Kara Scott. However, Scott would go on to perform interviews with players from the “High Stakes Suite” while the long time host Gabe Kaplan announced the table action solo. This was a controversial change with many viewers – inspiring a petition for his return.
