In this article I’m going to lay out my case for why Vanessa Selbst is the best tournament player in poker right now. The main period of time that I will be looking at will be the past three years, with some thought given to results before this period.
With her recent win at the 2011 PokerStars NAPT Mohegan Sun Main Event Selbst now has four major tournament victories on her resume, and a total of nine 6-figure cashes, and one 7-figure cash, most coming after 2008. Selbst is also six for sixteen when it comes to winning a tournament when she reaches the final table, and of those sixteen final table appearances she has finished in 4th place or better thirteen of those times –and as we all know that’s where the money is!
Selbst has won:
· The 2008 WSOP $1,500 PLO tournament
· The 2010 NAPT Mohegan Sun Main Event
· The 2010 Partouche Poker Tour Grand Finale
· The 2011 NAPT Mohegan Sun Main Event
So who would Selbst’s nearest competitors be in terms of the best tournament poker players in the world? Here is a quick list I have put together, and realistically, while you could make an argument for virtually any player on the list, I don’t think you could argue against choosing Vanessa Selbst against any one of these players.
