Roberto Romanello, a Welsh poker pro sponsored by Full Tilt Poker, booked his first major tournament win on Saturday at the European Poker Tour Prague main event. Romanello became very emotional following his win, saying that it “means everything to [him]” and that he felt “ecstatic.”

Romanello’s first place finish earned him a stunning 640,000 Euros. This marks Romanello’s second final table cash at an EPT main event, as he previously finished 6th at EPT Copenhagen, where he won DKR570,000. The EPT Prague win elevates Romanello’s total live tournament winnings to just over $1 million. He is currently the 3rd most successful all-time Welsh poker player in terms of cash earnings.

563 players started the EPT Prague tournament’s main event, 100 of whom qualified through PokerStars satellite tournaments. Kevin MacPhee, who finished first at EPT Berlin and was among the PokerStars satellite winners, led the final 23 going into Day 4 but busted before the final table.

The final hour of the tournament consisted of heads up play between Romanello and Emiliano Bono. Finally, Romanello went all-in with 10 – 10, and Bono Called with Ace – Jack. The flop showed 10 – 4 – 4. The turn showed a 5 of hearts, cementing Romanello’s victory.

Next on the EPT tournament agenda is the Caribbean Adventure, taking place from January 8th through the 14th in the Bahamas. As with EPT Prague, the Caribbean Adventure is sponsored by PokerStars.
