Matthew Scott Wins Fox Poker Club Main Event

Although the vast majority of the poker world currently has its attention fixed on the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, other tournaments continue to play out in various regions of the world. Just a few days ago, the Fox Poker Club in London held a Main Event of its own. Professional poker player Matthew Scott emerged victorious after working his way through 114 players. Along with the title of Champion, Scott earned 9,000 pounds from a prize pool of over 34,500 pounds.

Scott initially arrived at the Fox Poker Club this past Friday, intending to participate in the 35-pound buy-in tournament. After finding himself too far down on the waiting list, Scott decided to take his chances and pony up the 300-pound buy-in for the Main Event. Given the results of the tournament, it’s safe to say that Scott does not regret his spontaneous decision.

Duncan Mackie was knocked out of the tournament in third place, leaving only Scott and Nathan Gentry for heads-up play. Gentry and Scott immediately struck a deal in which each player would receive an even 8,250 pounds. From here, they decided to continue play to determine who would win the final 750 pounds, in addition to the championship title.

Gentry got off to a sizable lead at one point, but Scott managed to double up two separate times to gaina  2-1 chipstack advantage. The match concluded shortly thereafter in exciting fashion.

In the final hand, all of the chips were pushed to middle. Scott held A-10 against Gentry’s A-8. A flop containing 4-K-Q was garbage for both players, though an 8 on the turn gave Gentry the obvious advantage. Incredibly, the river showed a 10 and gave Scott the ultimate win.

The next Main Event at the Fox Poker Club will take place in early August.
