Spotlight on Thomas Fuller

If you’ve never heard of professional poker player Thomas Fuller, you’re not alone. Despite racking up almost $1 million in career live tournament profits, the 28 year old native of Boulder, Colorado is far from a household name even among dedicated railbirds. While the reasons for Fuller’s lack of fame are unclear, the reasons why he should be famous are readily apparent.

Fuller began playing poker with his friends prior to high school, and he started work on his online game in college. He surrounded himself with other solid players, most notably Paul Wasicka. Fuller taught the game to Wasicka in the early days of Party Poker, and by 2006, Wasicka was a runner-up in the WSOP.

Over the next year, Fuller stepped up his game and became a full fledged grinder on Party Poker, meanwhile entering progressively larger live tournaments to shape a well-rounded game. The hard work paid off in 2007, when Fuller won $86k at the $1,500 buy-in WSOP Shootout. In that same year, Fuller narrowly missed the first place position in EPT Baden, ending with 4th and a massive score of $227k.

Like many poker players, Fuller has a personal blog (http://gnightmoon2006.blogspot.com/). This one, however, started in 2006, is actually really good. Fuller writes articulately and prolifically about his experiences as a professional poker player, and gives plenty of insight into his lifestyle at and away from the poker table. Not surprising, then, that Fuller recently finished the first draft of his book, to be called either Live on the Bubble or Plenty of Fish. The book centers on Fuller’s foray into the 2010 live poker tournament circuit, with plenty of personal stories and anecdotes for flavor.

Fuller is currently working his way through upwards of 20 events at the 2011 WSOP, and blogging each day about the festivities.
